Oklahoma City, OK.... Oklahoma State Capitol...2300 N Lincoln Blvd... Oklahoma City was designated as the territorial capital in 1890 and it became state capital in 1910. Work began on the building in 1914 and although the original Renaissance Revival - Neoclassical design included a dome, it was not built due to cost overruns It was completed in 1917. An eartquake of 5.5 magnitude in El Reno hit the building causing several cracks in the Capitol. In 1998 the Oklahoma Centennial Act funded the dome which was completed in 2002. The complex that surrounds the building includes oil wells, making it the only state capitol grounds in the US with active oil rigs.
