This motel was a kind of "Last Chance", Glenrio was 41 mi. east of Tucumcari, NM, and 73 miles west of Amarillo, TX, a long distance for cars in the 1940s, especially cars lacking air conditioning during the hot summer months. It sported a sign reading "Motel, Last in Texas" greeting those arriving from Amarillo and another, facing west: "Motel, First in Texas" luring in weary travelers coming from New Mexico.
