Back in Tucumcari, NM we stopped by the Tucumcari Train Depot..Rock Island-Southern Pacific RR Depot --The Tucumcari landmark Rock Island-Southern Pacific depot opened in 1927, when Tucumcari was enjoying the rise of auto traffic on old Route 66. Built in the Spanish Mission-style, this depot is massively long, encompassing both a large passenger area and a significant freight area under one roof.
Ending part 2 of the Route 66 trip...our last shots were taken in Texas-Route 66 Rest Area - McLean, Texas-f you are traveling east on Interstate Highway 40, this is a 'must see' rest area. Opened in 2003, the retro building has a full compliment of artifacts and signs from the Route 66 era and a history of the famous road. Even the restrooms are done in 1950's style and the place is always clean and neat. Even if you don't need a break, stop anyway to visit this historic place.
